Designer: tommy hilfigerinspiration: after his world tour, tommy hilfiger returned to new york to present his fashion show, in collaboration with the singer and artist zendaya, all remaining on the principle ‘’see now, buy now’’, with an opportunity to buy part of his collection straight after the show.for his return, the designer uses the apollo theater, a legendary concert hall in harlem. the incredible staging created by the bureau betak with dancers, musicians, and singers all moving to the rhythm of the soundtrack is reminiscent of performances there.collection: the designer is of course inspired by the 70’s, with checked and houndstooth outfits and suits consisting of flared trousers on the bottom & slim jackets. the black, supple leather offers several possibilities, the mesh dress takes some colours and the blouses play with transparency. the accessories include big hats and wedge heels.focus: the silver evening outfits, the glittery jumpsuit and the red velvet suit at the end of the show.to note: the varied casting, the final with men and the women who dance, tommy hilfiger and zendaya coming to greet each other, the hadid sisters are on the front row.interview :tommy hilfiger : well it’s like coming home. we’ve been around the world but for this particular show because of the inspiration of 1970’s in harlem, we thought coming back here and making it very very authentic with the iconic apollo theater. zendaya thought it would be a great idea, she was right, it’s a great idea and i think it is going to be very exciting. this girl is multitalented, a tv star, a movie star, a music star and now a fashion star. she is 22 years old but her mind is beyond 22 years, it’s like a 50 year old with a lot of intelligence, like deep intelligence about a lot of different subjects. but she knows specifically what she likes in fashion and she brought us the whole idea of doing the 70s. we’ve done 70s before with an item or a product here and there but not a full entirety, not a full range so we’re really excited to show the entire range. it’s much chicer, much more sophisticated than before, it’s day into evening, tailoring with fine fitted jackets and high waisted very wide trousers in velveteen and leather and all sorts of different plays on pattern, checks, stripes, polka dots, animal prints which we’ve never done, a lot of beautiful leather pieces and we’re showing on a very very diverse cast of girls. it has to be an experience, it has to be theatrical, it has to be fun, it has to be exciting, it can’t be a normal catwalk runway show, that’s too boring and we don’t want that, we want it to be an experience you don’t forget. music from the show (for use only in context of the show, under cover of the right to information).
