Spread Group, a specialist in customised apparel and accessories, has announced the hiring of Sven Burscher as the new head of its licensing division. He will be responsible for developing the 190 licenses currently featured on the Spreadshirt website. Burscher’s appointment follows the arrival at Spread Group of a new marketplace manager hired from Zalando.

Sven Burscher and Gunter Nickel - Spreadgroup

Burscher had been working at brand licensing agency Wildbrain CPLG since 2014. As head of Brands and Retail, he spearheaded the licenses for Universal, Peanuts and Hello Kitty, collaborating with brands like Puma and mass-market distribution specialist Lidl, and with the Spread Group itself.

“We greatly appreciated Sven’s work as a consultant at WildBrain CPLG. He has a great passion for e-commerce, and we are very pleased to welcome him at Spread Group,” said Julian de Grahl, CEO of Spread Group, adding that “with him on board, we have the ideal organisation to continue growing our international licensing business.”

Burscher’s appointment came after another key hiring for Spread Group. In spring, the German group poached the Strategy Office CFO at Zalando, Gunter Nickel, putting him in charge of its marketplace. Nickel, who has also worked for nearly a decade at management consultancy firm AT Kearney, is keen to attract fashion aficionados to Spreadshirt.

Spreadshirt is a website commercialising a huge variety of customised products, notably apparel (using suppliers like Fruit of the Loom, Gildan and others), decorated with designs and patterns whose creators are also remunerated, and are able to feature their own e-shop on Spreadshirt. Spread Group is present in 170 countries and recently appointed de Grahl as its CEO. In 2020, the group generated a revenue of €168 million ($195 million), up 33% year-on-year.
