On Wednesday 20 September, Dutch sports- and outerwear retailer Perry Sport announced that it is expanding with a 1200 m2 flagship store. The shop will be located in Utrecht and is planned to open in March 2018.

In the new store Perry Sport will carry brands such as Nike Asics, The North Face and Puma. It will be the second flagship store in the Netherlands, following an Amsterdam branch, which opened in December 2016.

In February 2016 Perry Sport’s then parent company, Unlimited Sports Group went bankrupt. A month later the retailer was taken over by the British JD Sports Group. The latter announced earlier this month that it reduced the number of Perry Sport stores in the Netherlands. The retailer went from 70 outlets to 39 points of sale. After the Amsterdam flagship proved successful, Perry Sport now focuses on its new concept, which also includes a new website and app that were introduced in December 2016.

The first Dutch branch of Perry Sport opened in 1866 in Amsterdam, at the time named The English American Warehouse Perry & Co. The American company Unlimited Sports Group took over ownership of Perry Sport in 2006. From 2016 the company has been part of the JD Sports group.
