Next returns to Gloucester Quays in further sign of key mall's bounce-back

UK fashion and lifestyle retail giant Next has made a headline return to  the Peel L&P-operated Gloucester Quays, South West England’s premier outlet destination.

It’s also a big endorsement for physical retail reflecting shopping malls up and down the country that are witnessing a continuing post-pandemic revival.

Next’s arrival, plus Timberland’s recent inclusion at Gloucester Quays, reflects a “hugely successful 2022 for the outlet, with retail sales up 8% compared with 2019”, Peel L&P said.

The opening of the 10,441 sq ft outlet store allows Next to feature full ranges across its women’s, men’s and children’s clearance collections, including brands such as Gap and Calvin Klein, as well as lines from its signature label. Also included are accessories, homewares and beauty.

Aligning with its full-price store at the adjacent Gloucester Retail Park, the Next outlet at Gloucester Quays “delivers more choice for the destination’s visitors, with access to items from the label at an affordable price point”.

Paul Carter, Asset Director at Peel L&P, said Next’s official return to Gloucester Quays, “showcases the destination as a front-runner for retail and outlet shopping within the UK. Next has huge renown in retail.”

Next is one of a number of UK retailers that were closing stores not so long ago but are now in full-on opening mode as the recovery of physical shopping continues at pace. Retail peers such as Jigsaw and Monsoon that closed a large number of stores in recent years as they battled a variety of headwinds have also embarked on opening programmes with a focus on star malls and high streets.
