The company said it decided to enter the Finnish market after seeing high demand at a pop-up store it opened at the furniture and design fair Habitare in 2017. It was the first time the company participated in a fair anywhere in Europe.

The office will open in Helsinki and manage the brand’s stores in Finland, with a first location planned for November 2019.

Ryohin Keikaku Co., which sells everything from household items to fashion and accessories, hit the headlines earlier this year with reports claiming that it is considering moving its European headquarters out of the UK because of Brexit.

When announcing the establishment of a new subsidiary in Finland this week, the company highlighted the country’s free trade stance and its membership of the European Union.

Defined by sustainability and simplicity, Muji is a brand that focuses on creating and selling products for the day-to-day life, from bedroom furniture and sofas, to cosmetics and travel accessories.

In the first half of 2017, consolidated revenue increased by 13.2% and operating profit was up 6.9% at the company.
