Manchester brand Baracuta launches first Vans Vault collab

Manchester-based fashion brand Baracuta has linked up with Vans for their first collaboration. The companies said they’ve developed “garments with urban identity”, with shoes also included, of course.

The collab offers two variations of the Harrington Jacket, a front pocket waterproof cotton made Drill Jacket, two shirts, and the Vans Slip, with classic black and white chessboard and the Baracuta logo.

Baracuta is a heritage brand having launched as an outerwear label in the 1930s. It’s very closely associated with the Harrington jacket that was first designed in 1937 and with the Fraser tartan that was added to the jacket a year later and then extended to the entire Baracuta brand.

It’s a strong focus for a classics-meet-fashion collab with the Harrington jacket having been a key trend item since the 1950s when it was first distributed in the US and became a cult celebrity favourite. It also became a pop culture favourite in the UK market, most recently worn by Brit Pop bands and with the 1990s being a key reference point for current trends, it also seems like good timing.

The Fraser tartan also links up well with Vans’ own signature checkerboard pattern.
