Logistics: Uber tests out its delivery service

After making a name for itself with its taxi service, Uber is soon expected to announce it will undertake deliveries for a dozen retailers, many luxury and fashion brands among them.

This is what the specialist site Re/Code has reported, stating that the service will be initially set up in New York, before a quick deployment in San Francisco. Tests have already been carried out in some areas of San Francisco and Washington, where Uber cars are able to guarantee delivery of goods such as cosmetics, personal care and baby care products.

Uber isn't alone anymore in researching the opportunity of deliveries to private individuals. Amazon too is developing its 'On my way' solution. And Ebay and Google will also join the ranks. All of these developments are closely monitored by traditional logistics operators, which see in them both potentially unfair competition, and a solution to the thorny 'last mile' issue.
