The Woolmark Company has teamed up with the Karl Lagerfeld brand to honour the late designer’s life and legacy through a knitting project. 777 ‘Knit Karl’ kits have launched as part of the collaboration in an ode to the designer’s favourite number.

Each box contains one of four unisex designs: a pullover, cap, headband and scarf — plus all the necessary tools to knit the piece, including knitting needles, yarn, personalised pins and instructions. The yarn is made from Australian Merino wool that is 100% natural.

To take part in the competition, fans of the brand are invited to join a scavenger hunt, with clues appearing across stores, magazines and the company’s social media channels and online shop.

Using a unique code, customers can access Knitkarl.com to win a DIY box. The competition will run until 7 March.

In addition to the Knit Karl initiative, the International Woolmark Prize introduced a new award this month: the Karl Lagerfeld Award for Innovation. The title will recognise individuals who showcase outstanding creativity and innovation, two characteristics that influenced Lagerfeld’s success. The inaugural winner was Emily Adams Bode, chosen by a judging panel composed of industry experts. The award was presented by Carine Roitfeld, style advisor at Karl Lagerfeld, during London Fashion Week.

The late designer’s career has been tied to the Woolmark Company since its beginning, as Karl Lagerfeld rose to fame after he won the 1954 Woolmark Prize in the coat category.
