Fifteen years ago, when Julen took charge of the group, Intersport International was present in 16 countries and generated €5 billion in sales. Currently the group, which since 2012 also operates the 'The Athlete’s Foot' retail brand, is worth €10.8 billion and is present in 66 countries.

"Sixteen years as CEO is a long stint, especially in a world that's constantly changing. I'm convinced that the end of 2016 will be the appropriate time to step back and start off a new phase in my career, for Intersport and for myself too", Franz Julen has said. He will continue to act as CEO and fulfil his operational responsibilities until 31st December 2016.

In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, Intersport recorded a 5.8% rise in sales, reaching €7.73 billion. As for The Athlete’s Foot, the chain is growing by 9%.
