Goop closes London boutique

Gwyneth Paltrow’s standalone Goop store in London’s Notting Hill has closed for good. The store opened in 2018 and news of its permanent closure came after a short filing at Companies House showed that the business lost more than £1 million in the UK in 2019 (the last year for which accounts had been filed).

Given that the following year was dominated by the pandemic and the shop was closed for much of the time, the losses are likely to have mounted.

The UK webstore remains open, however.

Goop was founded while Paltrow was still married to Coldplay’s Chris Martin and living in the UK. But the business is now US-based and while Britain may not have embraced it as a physical store concept, the firm has been estimated to be worth around £191 million.

It opened its first permanent store in LA in 2018 and also operates regular pop-ups in the US, Canada and Britain.
