O’Neill, who also serves on the boards of Tim Hortons and Shop.org, currently serves as CEO of Evernote Corporation and for 2 years has overseen the increase in the note-taking and organizing app’s user base. Prior to joining Evernote, O’Neill spent 10 years at Google and served in a number of leadership roles, including Managing Director of Google Canada where he doubled the business in under three years.

“Chris is a proven leader in the technology industry and brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and creativity to our board of directors,” said Bob Fisher, Gap Chairman of the Board. “His expertise will be a great asset to the company as we enter our next phase of growth.”

The election of O’Neill comes as Gap shifts its focus to Old Navy and Athleta. The company expects Old Navy to exceed $10 billion in sales and Athleta to exceed $1 billion in sales, both over the next few years. Old Navy launched in November the Superbox, a kids’ clothing subscription service for children ages 5 through 12, which followed Gap's first subscription service for Gap Kids called the Baby Gap Outfit Box.

Gap also shared in September its plans to close 200 underperforming Gap and Banana Republic stores.
