Foot Locker group creates head of strategy and transformation post
US sport retailing group Foot Locker, owner among others of Foot Locker, Champs Sports, Atmos and Sidestep, has appointed Neil Bansal to the newly created post of vice-president in charge of strategy and transformation. Bansal will work under the direct supervision of Richard Johnson, the group's CEO.
Prior to joining Foot Locker, Bansal worked at Constellation Brands (a producer and distributor of alcoholic beverages) as vice-president in charge of strategy. During his 20-year business career, he also worked at McKinsey & Co., BNP Paribas, JP Morgan Chase, Citigroup and Bank of America.
“Neil's fresh outlook and extensive experience will give further impetus to our consumer-centric strategies, as we continue to expand our customer base thanks to a broader product range,” said Johnson.
Foot Locker is currently rebalancing its brand assortment, at a time when a heavyweight like Nike is prioritising its direct-to-consumer channels ahead of multibrand retailers, owing to the sourcing and manufacturing problems encountered since the start of the Covid pandemic.
The Foot Locker group operates 2,800 stores in 28 countries. In Q1 2022, the group's total sales grew by a mere 1%, to $2.175 billion (€2.02 billion). Comparable sales were instead down by 1.9%.
