Online fast-fashion retailer Boohoo has appointed former Asos and Amazon director Shaun McCabe to its board as an independent non-executive director, with immediate effect.

He joins with extensive financial experience across e-commerce and retail having been international director for Asos and CFO for Amazon Europe. He’s currently CFO of Trainline and a non-executive director at AO World, where he is a member of its Audit and Remuneration Committees.

He will take on the role of chair of Boohoo Group’s Audit Committee and will sit on the group's Remuneration and Nomination Committees.

Boohoo has been rocked by a series of scandals this year surrounding working conditions in its UK factories and this appointment is being seen as part of an effort to repair its reputation.

McCabe joins four months after the company said it would seek to alleviate City concerns about boardroom governance when it said it would recruit two more independent directors. The second appointment has yet to be announced.

A review of its supply chain, announced in September and includes a detailed audit and a list of all suppliers, is expected to be published by the end of next year.

Mahmud Kamani, Boohoo Group executive chairman, said: “As executive chairman, I am committed to supporting and driving our agenda for change to build a better boohoo for the benefit of all of the Group's stakeholders. [McCabe’s] deep knowledge and experience of e-commerce and retail will be a great asset to the Board."
