Scottish Christopher Kane could be taking the reins at Balenciaga after the departure of Nicolas Ghesquière. The news was leaked on Friday evening by Obession, the lifestyle magazine of French publication Le Nouvel Observateur but no sources were cited. The post will be unfilled as of 1st December 2013 when Ghesquière finishes his 15 year stint at the label, during which he completely revamped the label. Balenciaga has stated that the rumors that Christopher Kane will be taking the helm are unfounded. But here the plot thickens…

News hit today that Christopher Kane and Versus, Versace’s younger line, have mutually decided to go in separate directions. An executive at Versus said that the relationship between designer and label “evolved naturally and matured, so that this was the right moment and a logical decision for everyone. We started thinking about the new Versus months ago, before the summer.”

Recently dubbed the ‘British Nicolas Ghesquière’ by Maria Luisa, fashion editor of Printemps, Christopher Kane emerged on the London scene in 2007, receiving honors from the British Fashion Council for the launch of his label with his sister Tammy, muse and business partner.
