Burberry unveils Lunar New Year collection and campaign with tiger inspiration
Luxury brands continue to prepare for an intensive focus on Chinese consumers as the Lunar New Year looms in a few weeks’ time. And the latest is Burberry, which on Friday unveiled its dedicated New Year collection and campaign.
Inspired by the year of the tiger, the campaign stars models Liu Bingbing, Liu Chunjie, Wang Xiangguo and Yang Ling and is captured by photographer Feng Li.
The images “celebrate the year of the tiger’s strong, confident spirit”. With that in mind, a tiger stripe animal print in an orange hue is used on the brand’s signature Lola and Olympia bags, as well as on cashmere scarves and sneakers and on linings.
The company is also offering “a new perspective on the signature TB Monogram print” in honey beige punctuated with bright orange B motifs, with a number of key pieces “reimagined” for the event.
For women, that includes a belted car coat in lightweight Italian-woven cotton gabardine, cut to a relaxed fit with a tiger stripe animal-print lining. There’s also a pussy-bow blouse in Italian-woven silk, highlighted with contrast panels featuring the Thomas Burberry Monogram.
And elevated knitwear includes a crew-neck sweater in cashmere, intarsia knitted with a refreshed Monogram motif plus a V-neck in technical wool, patterned with a tiger stripe animal print.
The men’s offer includes lightweight funnel-neck jackets cut from Italian-woven nylon with a packaway hood, patterned with a refreshed Monogram print. There’s also a shirt in silk twill, an oversized T-shirt, hoodie and drawcord jogging pants featuring the refreshed Monogram motif.
Key bags have been updated too, as mentioned, while shoes for women include point-toe pumps sculpted from Italian-tanned metallic leather and studded with eyelet detailing. Meanwhile for men, it’s introducing the new Arthur sneaker in vintage check cotton and nubuck.
