Comfort, African tribal colors, and Asian textiles have been the highlights at the first day of TRESemmé MFShow Woman, which opened this Monday in Madrid, Spain. For three days, the event is featuring 22 emerging Spanish designers at the Cristal CentroCentro Cibeles gallery.

Spanish designer Aurelia Gil presented her Spring 2016 collection, featuring elegant silhouettes inspired by African sunsets.

"These are clothes made with love; they are comfortable and cool," said Aurelia Gil, whose collection also introduced flat footwear, to EFE.

Her runway show showcased long summer dresses in orchid print and patch pockets on African-inspired jackets, taking cues from Ava Gardner's delicate costumes in the 1953 film Mogambo.

"They are clothes that invite women to dress fashionably, even on holidays," said the designer, who also included swimwear and drawstring backpacks in her fashion show.

Yono Taola, another designer who presented on the first day of MFShow, showed a collection influenced by Asian shades. "I was inspired by the culture of countries such as China, India, Japan, Thailand and Korea to create an eclectic cosmopolitan collection," said the designer.

Fluid garments shared the runway with more structured pieces, such as a gold brocade bodice dress that hinted at traditional Chinese costumes.

Marcos Luengo’s collection, on the other hand, was playful and rock chic with an Asian twist, thanks to kaftan dresses in Moroccan/Oriental prints. The hit of his show was a sheepskin trench coat dress tied at the waist with a flirty belt.

MFShow is organized by the hair products label TRESemmé, and includes a womenswear and a menswear edition. MFShow woman, sponsored by El Corte Inglés, Maybelline and Pandora, ends on September 9.
