Ulta to open first two stores in Hawaii

Published

Ulta is slated to open its first two stores in Hawaii by fall of 2018. The two stores will open at Kailua Town and Pearl Highlands Center as part of larger renovations for two of Oahu's malls.

The mall revitalization is being led by developers Alexander & Baldwin (A&B). A&B said Ulta complements their efforts to bring new options to consumers in Hawaii.  Lance Parker, A&B Properties president said, "We expect the stores to fit in well with the enhancements we are working on in both Pearl City and Kailua."

As developers are spending millions to revitalize dead mall properties throughout the US mainland, A&B is executing a similar strategy for Hawaii and is renovating the food court and movie theater at its Pearl Highlands property.

At Kailua, it is following the mainland US trends by renovating an old Macy's building to add new smaller shops that include an organic and natural grocery store which is relocating from another location on the island. It will also add a dining experience from Chef Roy Yamaguchi and a brewpub from Maui Brewing Company to improve ambiance.

A&B is the fourth largest private landowner in Hawaii, owning 87,000 acres in the state. A&B operates and manages 4.8 million square feet of retail, commercial and industrial space in the US and is the largest operator of grocery and drugstore-anchored retail locations in Hawaii.

The new Ulta stores are slated to open either by summer or fall of 2018. Ulta operates over 1,000 stores across the US.
